Five Stripes Alumni Report March 2025
Where are these four former Atlanta United players now?
Today we’re checking in on another quartet of former Atlanta United players still kicking it in another kit somewhere in the game. We’ll scour the internet for the stats and then you’ll get to read the reports to find out how your former Atlanta United favorites are doing. Enjoy the March Alumni Report!
Yamil Asad: Cuiaba-MT; Brazilian Serie B
After several stops around MLS and in South America, Yamil Asad is currently playing in the Brazilian Second Division for Cuiaba-MT after his early February 2025 move to the club. Yamil has made two substitute appearances logging 39 minutes in his first few weeks with Cuiaba-MT. Asad played 29 times last year for FC Cincinnati scoring 6 goals adding 5 assists across all competitions in over 1200 minutes played. Yamil will forever be remembered as the first player to score a goal for Atlanta United on the club debut in 2017 against the Red Bulls.
Florentin Pogba: RE Virton; Belgium Third Division
Pogba is currently playing in the Belgian Third Division with RE Virton where the 34-year-old defender has been a steady fixture in the lineup appearing 20 times during the current campaign. Florentin has scored 5 goals and picked up 7 yellow cards playing his brand of controlled aggression off the club’s backline. After his time in Atlanta, Pogba played in the French Second Division (’20-’22) and then found his way to the Indian Super League with Mohun Bagan Super Giant in 2023 making just 6 appearances before returning to Europe in 2024 with RE Virton. The images of pure joy on Florentin’s face after playing all 90 minutes wearing the Five Stripes during the 2019 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup victory is a club moment that is forever burned in the Halo Board at the Benz.
Santiago Sosa: Racing Club; Argentine Primera Division
Sosa recently completed his loan spell from Atlanta United with Racing and made good on his time back home in Argentina completing the move to Racing in January 2025 for around $4 million dollars. Santiago has appeared 3 times in the Apertura logging 225 minutes in a center back or holding midfield role. While on loan with Racing Sosa appeared 51 times scoring 2 goals and adding 1 assist. Sosa weathered some tough times in the Five Stripes and was a valuable utility player in defense playing 70 times from 2021 to 2023. At just 25 years old, good things are still ahead for Sosa in his career.
Jurgen Damm: Oakland Roots; USL Championship
Jurgen left Atlanta in February 2022 without a club and has since played in Liga MX with America and San Luis making just under 40 appearances from 2022 to 2024. The USL Championship Oakland Roots made a great signing picking up Jurgen on a free transfer in February 2025 and he will certainly give this USL side some dangerous services from the flanks this season. “We are very excited to bring in a player of Jürgen’s caliber and ability,” said Oakland Roots Head Coach Gavin Glinton. “His pedigree and experience speak for themselves. He has won at the highest level in our region and represented one of the most recognized national teams (Mexico) in the world.” This move for Damm and the Roots will certainly help them make a splash as they now play their home matches at the Oakland Coliseum after the Oakland A’s left the stadium after the 2024 season. Damm played 27 times for Atlanta United also during the tough campaigns of 2020 and 2021. Like Sosa, what could have been if Damm had arrived earlier or was still part of the club today?
Thanks for stopping by and checking up on these former Atlanta United players…in April we’ll be back again spotlighting four other players who used to kick it with the Five Stripes.
