After a late night in Seattle, Charlotte heads home with one point after a 2-2 draw against the Sounders. Jordan Morris opened the scoring for Seattle with a goal in the 19th minute. The Crown was able to even the score thanks to a header in the 35th minute from defender Adilson Malanda. The first 45 ended with both teams even at 1-1. Jordan Morris added another goal in the 49th minute to put the Sounders up 2-1. Seattle held the ball for most of the second half which made it tough for Charlotte to equalize. When it looked like the boys would come back to the Queen City without points, an own goal in the 93rd minute by Seattle defender Yeimar Gomez put the ball into his own net. 2-2 both teams left the pitch with a point.
First off, I want to say I'm happy with points, three is better than one but, one is better than none. Taking points from one of the best teams in the league is always a good thing but for Charlotte to challenge in the east, they need wins. Since it’s early in the season, I'm not too worried. There is still time to make adjustments and figure out what works best.
Fans will have to wait for Wilfried Zaha to make his debut as he was away from the team for personal reasons. He is expected to be ready next week for the home opener against Atlanta. Hopefully, his addition will mean that scoring chances will be converted into goals.
I was really hoping Pat would have a bigger impact on the game, I have high hopes for him and if he’s gonna be the man upfront, his name needs to be in the scoring column. The midfield needs work, there were points watching the game where play through the middle looked non-existent. Since it’s still early, I think Dean Smith and his staff will figure out a midfield lineup that works the best and allows for service to the attackers through the middle.
Overall, I’m happy with the end result and hopefully, as the season progresses, the players find more chemistry and shake off some rust. I’ll start to worry if we see these same issues ten matches down the road.
The boys will be back in action next Saturday, March 1st as Atlanta United comes to town for a 2:00 pm kickoff which will be broadcasted on Fox.
