Red Wolves add more strength in depth
Chattanooga has made two new signings, giving it more options for rotation in attack
USL League One’s Chattanooga Red Wolves on 28th March announced the signings of three new players for its 2025 roster. The news came a few hours before the club played out a 0-0 draw away to Charlotte Independence.
The Southeast Soccer Report had made the case before that the Red Wolves badly needed to deepen their squad, especially as it prepares to undertake the biggest USL League One season in history, the USL Jägermeister Cup, and potentially have a US Open Cup run. Friday’s announcement will therefore be one of relief for fans in East Ridge.
Incoming are attacker Zahir Vazquez and winger Alhassan Alhassan.
25-year-old Vazquez arrives on a free transfer after spending two-and-a-half years with Central Valley Fuego. The Ogden, Utah native is a product of the Real Salt Lake Academy and also spent time in the Red Wolves’ system through a stint with their Park City USL League Two affiliate. Between 2022 and 2024 he made 54 league appearances, scoring seven goals. He also played eight times in the Jägermeister Cup and three times in the US Open Cup, all for the Fuego.
Alhassan Alhassan brings options on both wings. The 19 year old joins the club from Kaistorms FC in his native Ghana, for whom he has also two international caps with their U20 team.
Elsewhere, Omar Gomez has re-signed with the Red Wolves after spending the past two seasons with the team.
All three played in the Red Wolves’ draw at Charlotte on Friday. Alhassan started the match at left midfield, while Vasquez entered in the 63rd minute and Gomez in the 73rd.
These signings were wwway overdue! As witnessed by the crisis the Red Wolves barely survived during the U.S. Open Cup, when they used up all their available subs and had to send the backup Keeper to play the last 15 minutes of the game in the field, wearing a borrowed and ill-fitting field player uniform!
